Adding & Editing Music

The task of finding and adding music to your video can be a hassle sometimes. Here at Vimeo, our goal is to make it easier! Let’s take a look at a great way to find, and then edit, music into your project using iMovie.
In the video above, we showed you a pretty simple way to edit music using iMovie. Most video editing software will have effects that allow this to be done pretty much the same way.

In more advanced editors, like Final Cut Pro 7, the same effect can be done in a more manual and precise way. After you have your audio clip in the audio track, highlight it and select the waveform button at the bottom left of the screen (fig.1). This will show the waveform inside the audio track.

Double click on the track to open the waveform in the viewer window on the left (fig.2). There you’ll see a red line which represents the track volume over time. Click at any point on this red line to create a keyframe, or a point that allows the volume to be changed at that location (fig.3). Then create another keyframe somewhere before or after the first one. You can now affect the volume at that location on or before by dragging the keyframe up or down, therefore changing the volume(fig. 4).
